Without question, my favorite zero-drop gym shoes

5 out of 5 stars

Without question, my favorite zero-drop gym shoes
This is my 3rd pair of ASITVOs, and I love them. I’ve owned every big brand barefoot gym shoe there is, and they either didn’t fit well for my super wide, ultra flat feet, they weren’t truly “zero-drop,” or I couldn’t justify the price to continue purchasing those brands after I’d worn through the first pair. And in one case, they were honestly just ugly. To the latter point, this new design style is by far my favorite. I own 2 pairs of the previous design and found them to be a little outdated. If you’ve owned a pair of ASITVOs before, they fit and feel exactly the same. I find there to be virtually no break-in period and use them for weightlifting, running (indoor and outdoor), and jumping. They have the perfect balance of cushion, especially around the back of the foot, and support. I also wear these shoes when I do sled pushes/drags, and they have great traction. The fact that these shoes fit, feel, and function so well is almost upsetting when you see the price point. Their value is insane when you think about the shoes that underperform by comparison and cost literally 3-4x as much as these. If you’ve ever shopped for barefoot, zero-drop shoes, you know exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve recommended these before, and I’m recommending them again. I love ASITVOs, and I’m even happier now with the new design.

First off, I’ll just say that I’ve been wearing barefoot shoes for about 5 years now after listening to the Primal Blueprint audiobook and learning about barefoot shoes.
I have a pair of hemp Vibram toe shoes for very warm days.
I also have a pair of Whitin Knit shoes for a more normal looking shoe and I have to say those have become my benchmark for comfort for normal looking barefoot shoes. They’re ridiculously comfortable and I’ve been wearing those for the past 3 years. I’m currently on my second pair.
However, I wanted to see what else was out there and I also wanted a pair of gray shoes with a gum sole because I wear brown pants/shorts a lot with a gray or light colored shirt.
So, I purchased these and a pair of Airhas in the same color to compare them. Spoiler, these won.
I’ve been wearing these for the past couple days and I have to say I’m pretty impressed. Out of the box, these were definitely more comfortable than the Airhas. Not quite as comfortable as my Whitin Knits, but pretty comfortable. I also love the pale/light gray color with the gum sole. Great combo that goes well with a light colored shirt.
These are definitely higher quality than the Airhas I tried. Especially the textured sole, which I really like and it’s a standout feature of these shoes. I also appreciate that the tongue on these has a bit of thickness to it. The Airhas were more firm on the inside where the laces are and it’s a big reason I returned them.
These have a pretty simple design to them and I appreciate that. They look like very normal shoes.
The quality is also there. As mentioned before, the gum sole definitely looks like good quality and the breathable fabric looks and feels good. The TPU toe shell also appears to be good quality. The sticker on the box had a price of $89, and while I definitely wouldn’t pay that much, for $40, these look like a $60-70 pair of shoes, for sure.
These will definitely stay in my shoes rotation when I’m wearing light colored clothes. They pair very well! If you’re deciding between these or the Airhas, I’d definitely recommend these!

The quality is unreal for the price. On par with my metcon's and dropsets. I originally bought them just for walking but I am going to get another pair for the gym. Lightweight. Plenty of room in the toe box. True to size. Comfortable.

I bought these specifically for leg day at the gym, especially for heavy leg presses. I will say the toe box is wide, so width is not the issue. I have flat feet, and maybe that’s part of it, but these were a no-go immediately. My walk to the gym is very short, only about 0.2 miles round trip, and just walking around the house was enough to know they were not going to work. My feet started hurting almost right away. They feel worse than walking barefoot. There seems to be some cushioning in the heel, but little to none in the front of the shoe, and that’s exactly where the pain started for me.
If you have flat feet or need real support, I would avoid these. I was hoping these would work out great, but unfortunately I’ll be returning them. They look cool, but they just feel low quality.

I own other Oxford Red shoes by other manufacturers. This is not Oxford Red, this is a Maroon. I'll keep them anyway. They fit well once I put in the extra arch support inserts that were included which was nice. Toe box is a wide toe box, but not so wide they look crazy. I did have to replace the shoe strings since I apparently have a thicker foot for these shoes. I put in stretch shoe strings to eliminate that issue. I have other Barefoot shoes by other higher priced brands that I didn't have this issue with, but I didn't want to spend another $140 on a pair of shoes. For $40 let's hope they hold up.
